EXPRESSING the INEXPRESSIBLE is a great anthology from a composer who writes in reassuringly thematic prose and crafts lush melodies and emotion out of sound”

- SoundWars

“An added touch of class is lent to the production by the top-notch musical score from Douglas Romayne.”

- Russell Williams, Dark Realms Magazine

Douglas Romayne's thematic ideas make the music immediately engaging.

“His ROCKETBOY has a magical Elfman-ian quality, a cross between PEE-WEE'S BIG ADVENTURE and EDWARD SCISSORHANDS.”

- Steven A. Kennedy, Film Score Monthly

“It's hard to come out from under the shadow of a cult TV series like BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER and ANGEL but this compilation CD featuring selections from 8 scores by Douglas Romayne is both a superb promo for the composer's skillful writing, and an addictive album, particularly for film music fans wanting music with a rich, elegant orchestral sound.”

- Mark R. Hasan, Soundtrack Reviews, KQEK

“This music is vital!”

EXPRESSING the INEXPRESSIBLE is a fabulous demonstration of Douglas Romayne's ability to create melodic, large-sounding scores in many genres. This album is highly recommended for those interested in hearing a voice that we hope will move on to more high profile assignments”

“Melodically Douglas Romayne shows immense talent, I can't wait to hear more music by him.”

- Mike Beek, Music From The Movies

“Douglas Romayne's rich scores satisfyingly complement the films he's worked on. I was reminded again that music goes beyond what pictures and words can do on their own. He has filled in and completed the stories, complementing the action and providing an emotional context. Its hard to imagine the films working as well as they do without his music. His evocative music conjures images and emotions that make for a satisfying stand-alone experience, and made me seek out other films he's scored. ”

- Jeff Jewell, director/editor

“Douglas Romayne's FREEDOMLAND kicks off the disk with Beautiful an aptly-titled track, featuring a strong lyrical melody.”

- Steven A. Kennedy, Film Score Monthly

“The music from FREEDOMLAND is centered around a gentle theme that unfolds like a soothing elegy, and in “Beautiful,” the theme goes through a number of gentle variations as Romayne switches from strings to woodwinds, and concludes the cue with a delicate turn towards a semi-tragic theme, using chamber string instruments and harp. A tilting four-note motif on piano is carried by gentle chordal swells by strings, while the theme restatement in the suite's concluding cue, “Free,” is deeply tender with the slow and comforting sound from a solo oboe”

- Mark Hasan, KQEK

“In ENTITY: NINE Douglas Romayne pulls out the stops to deliver excitement in the fashion he exhibited so well in "The Buffyverse." This score is truly impressive in melody and scope. Despite a budget dictating the usual reliance on samples and synths, DR squeezed in live performances with four violins, a cello, and on flute/clarinet he brought in Buffy regular and all-around whiz kid Chris Bleth. The result is an economical, thrilling score (think A.I. by John Williams) full of vitality. I couldn't think of a better stimulus to watching the film. There are sci-fi/action scores that do a lot less.”

- Martin Wagner, IMDb forum

“A hauntingly evocative score by Douglas Romayne”

- Mike Bracken, Epinions

“Quirky humour dominates Douglas Romayne's score for ROCKETBOY

“The jaunty tempo of "Something Unusual" is enhanced by the use of expressive, woody vibes and chimes, while "Accountant's Dream" introduces the film's main theme on chimes, and an appropriately cheesy Ondes Martinot sample that recalls some of Danny Elfman's cheeky music for Tim Burton's early comedies”

- Mark R. Hasan, KQEK

“Douglas Romayne's score for SHELTER is lyrical and engaging with an emphasis on ambient sound textures. There's a semi-James Newton Howard feel to this score.”

- Steven A. Kennedy, Film Score Monthly

“In SHELTER, Douglas Romayne reduces scoring down to little more than string synths, atmospherics and delicate piano. It's a very effective score because it lets the drama play out.”
